London Study Trip 2023

The annual study tour has become the flagship event in the Harrison Steven’s extra-carricular calendar. It brings together a culmination of the knowledge acquired in our monthly CPDs and curiosity in our day-to-day practice and allows us to apply it to some of the most-well renown, and possibly less well known landscape projects in the different corners of the world. This year we were delighted to head down to London to visit a selection of some of the inspiring landscape designs that the city has to offer.

Introducing, Tom

My name is Tom Stephenson; I am from Whitley Bay in northeast England and have recently become a landscape architect. I graduated in Fine Art at Duncan Of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee in 2016, working predominantly in contemporary sculpture. Shortly after graduation, I moved to the North-West Highlands of Scotland after a lifetime of family holidays there. I worked as a gardener and estate manager for a luxury hotel. Following my time in the highlands, I decided to join the Master of Landscape Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art.

Papdale East Community Park

The overarching aim of our design for Papdale East Park was to provide a modern and multifunctional community space, underpinned by public engagement and the regeneration of local ecology. The resulting design for the revitalised Park prioritises active travel, biodiversity and flood management, also creating welcoming arrival sequences for users and visitors.
